Abhiruchi Institute of Physical Education (AIPE) is the first dedicated physical education and sports college in Assam, established in 2008 under the aegis of Abhiruchi, a registered NGO committed to the promotion of sports and fitness in the region. AIPE is recognized by the Education Department, Government of Assam and affiliated with Gauhati University, offering professional undergraduate and postgraduate programs in physical education. The institute is also recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for its B.P.Ed. program, ensuring national-level credibility and academic excellence.
To empower students with theoretical expertise, practical skills, and leadership abilities in physical education and sports, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in teaching, coaching, sports management, and fitness industries. The objectives of the Institute is to generate professional leaders in the fields of Physical Education & Sports Science and Yoga Education.
The organisation has to its credit as many as one hundred and four units scattered in different parts of Assam. It has been observing the 3rd of September as the 'Abhiruchi Sports Day' since 1984 to mark the birth anniversary of 'ARJUN' SRI BHOGESWAR BARUA, the legendary sportsperson of Assam, throughout the state with various programmes to create awareness among the public in general and student community in particular about the role of games and sports. In addition, the Assamese sports monthly titled 'ABHIRUCHI' is being published since 1979 to enthuse the young sports talents of the state of Assam.
